Positive Footprints secures funding from Hornsea 3 Skills Fund for STEM Career Aspirations

We are happy to announce that Positive Footprints has been awarded the Skills Fund, part of the Hornsea 3 Community Fund.

We will use this grant to inspire STEM Career Aspirations at Primary Schools in Hornsea-3 Fund Areas, building on the impact we are having with Ørsted in the area. It allows for 7 primary schools to receive our award-winning programme, which is delivered in classrooms locally and nationally.

Nearly 300 children will take part – pupils aged 7-11 will discover their potential, explore careers and develop their skills for a brighter future. It will meaningfully connect business with education and transform the way children see their potential.

Ørsted have launched Hornsea 3 Community Fund, consisting of the Skills Fund which will award a total of £7 million over a targeted ten-year period.  The Skills Fund was open to projects in areas of Norfolk and Suffolk that would see experienced organisations develop and deliver Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) related training or education courses, one-off events, or a programme of targeted events. We applied for the grant through a competitive application process so it’s fantastic to have been recognised and awarded funded to run our programmes in these areas!

Why is this important?

Research shows that children as young as seven are creating a picture for their future based on what they see, who they meet and their circumstances. Children are ruling out STEM possibilities due to self-limiting beliefs and personal experiences. We aim to change this and show children that they can create a greener, sustainable future. Positive Footprints and primary schools in the fund area will develop a long-term partnership to raise aspirations and broaden horizons in the next generation.

The project aims to create a positive environmental impact by developing the next generation, giving children an improved awareness of sustainability and increased interest in ‘green’ carers that have a positive environmental impact.

Josh Cliff, Head of Service at Positive Footprints, said We believe that the next generation can only be what they can see. Children are our future and at Positive Footprints, we’re all about opening up the world of work to raise aspirations. The best time to empower our next STEM leaders and change-makers is now. We are thrilled to be awarded this grant from the Hornsea 3 Skills Fund, allowing us to make our work possible. This will significantly enhance our ability to equip the upcoming generation with essential skills and an increased awareness of sustainability.

Imran Nawaz, Senior Advisor and Community Benefit Fund Manager at Ørsted, said: “Through Hornsea 3 we want to leave a lasting positive legacy in the areas in which we’re working. These fantastic projects will make a real impact in the region, and we look forward to seeing the results.
