On 25th February, five schools in Liverpool participated in an exclusive online event designed to showcase the exciting and innovative career opportunities available in the city.
Lead by Positive Footprints, over 500 pupils took part in this event, which gave them the opportunity to speak to a selection of STEM businesses from across Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter.
Positive Footprints, Customer Relations Manager, Jo Norwood said: “We wanted to get children in Liverpool excited about the opportunities that exist right on their doorstep! It was such an inspirational morning exploring STEM careers with the children and we’re really grateful to the organisations that got involved.”
During the event, pupils engaged in five virtual breakout rooms, meeting with representatives from LJMU Astrophysics Research Institute, Harker, MTC, LYVA Labs and Sciontec.
Commenting on the event, Harker Chief Executive, James Barbar said: “We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the event, and it was great to be able to talk about what we do to so many curious school children, and hopefully inspire them to start their own businesses and tackle real-world problems with the skills they are learning in school in the future! It was also a refreshing challenge for us to explain what we do to 10-year-olds! We look forward to future opportunities to take part in this incredibly valuable outreach”
We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to explore their aspirations and build a strong foundation for the future. Our programmes help Primary School children develop essential skills, discover new possibilities, and connect with the world of work in exciting and meaningful ways.
In 2023-24, we helped 11,526 children and young people across 275 schools, working with 28 partner organisations to shape brighter futures. (Read more in our Impact Report).
Feedback from the schools that took part was overwhelmingly positive, with one saying: “We really liked how interactive the event was, the children came up with lots of questions and enjoyed listening to the responses. I liked the short snappy chats as this format kept the children interested. The hour flew by! Thank you for an enjoyable chat about careers.”
Another school said, “It was great! A really good way of exposing the children to careers that aren’t on their radars. Thanks very much.”
